Monika Echtermeyer began her career as a flight attendant for Lufthansa AG (1982 - 1987), before attending University Trier. She obtained a diploma in Tourism/Geography (1987 - 1992). After working at Aérolíneas Argentinas marketing department in Argentina, she gained a scholarship from the German Ministry of Education/Science to work on a doctorate in "Global Computer Reservation Systems and new Information Technologies in airline business and tourism”. After completion she worked as a freelance tourism consultant for Lufthansa Consulting GmbH. Since the year 2000 she is a Professor for Tourism Management actively teaching at Universities (FHDW Bergisch Gladbach/IUBH Bad Honnef/DHBW Ravensburg). Her past research focus has been on tourism marketing, sustainable tourism, destination management (Chinese outbound market) crisis management and intercultural communication. Besides teaching she set up an E-Bike network of sustainable mobility in Bavaria and an online learning platform together with international partners.
